Easter is right around the corner and for many parents, that means the Easter bunny is starting to think of Easter basket ideas for the kids. We don’t like to overload on the chocolate and candy so over the years we’ve made sure to add little non-candy Easter basket options. Now, I know some people like to get crazy with the Easter baskets. I’ve seen some the rival Christmas morning, just understand while you read this that we are not those people. If you are, ok, you do you. But we like to keep it small so these are just simple ideas that we have done in the past or plan on doing in the future!
Easter Baskets for Babies
Baby’s firsts are always so exciting! They are seeing things for the first time and you get to witness that joy or confusion. Our son was almost a year for his first Easter so he was pretty excited about being allowed to pull something apart. Depending on where your baby is in their first year this could be different but non-candy Easter ideas for babies could be:
- A stuffed animal (we went with a bunny but think chicks and other “easter” themed animals)
- Books – we usually went with a Dr. Suess book and one of those baby books that they can chew on. The kind like this that crinkle and make noise.
- Pacifiers – my kid never used them, his thumb was his best friend
- Sippy Cups Themed cups with straws
- Little plastic eggs – seriously, these things don’t even need anything in them. Our guy loved just playing with them.
- Small soft blankets with the stuffed animal like this
- Teether toys – we LOVED this one
- Bibs
- Snack bowls
Easter Baskets for Toddlers and Preschoolers
As kids get older we like to add more practical things to the Easter baskets. We tend to steer clear from the “filler” items that you see at places like Wal*Mart. Like the tiny toys that break in a day. I suggest these non-candy Easter Basket ideas for toddlers and preschoolers:
- Chalk – Easter time stores even have the larger egg shaped chalk that is so easy for the little hands to hold and draw with. You can also use these in place of plastic Easter eggs and cut down on the plastic waste!
- Bubbles and fun bubble wands
- Books
- Cups
- Waterbottles
- Crayons
- Coloring books
- Playdough
- Bath bombs
- Finger Paint
- Fun cookie cutters to use together
- Pajamas
- Bath toys
A fun idea is also instead of using an Easter basket, you can use a pair of rain boots! I saw this idea on Pinterest (if you head over there, find us and give us a follow). I loved it and I need to do that.
Non-Candy Easter Basket Ideas for School-Aged Kids
This is where I’m at in life with my son. This is going to be the stage where his likes and dislikes change more than his underwear so it’s exhausting trying to keep up! I’m going to list off a few non-candy Easter ideas that we’ve had and seen for both boys and girls to hopefully help those of you in the same position I’m in.
- LEGO makes tiny little LEGO sets that are perfect fillers
- Waterbottles – you can even grab custom ones from places like Etsy
- Hair accessories
- crayons/coloring books
- Matchbox or Hotwheels cars
- Surprise toy packs – you know, the mystery ones you see in store check out isles
- Nail polish
- Hats
- Sunglasses
- Outdoor toys like frisbees
- A new bathing suit – We did this because we planned a trip to Great Wolf Lodge and we were taking that soon after Easter.
- Magnifying glasses
- Slime
- Keychains
